AITAH because I committed to pet sitting before I started seeing the guy I’m currently with?

So I picked up pet sitting regularly when I was a vet tech 8 years ago. I still use it for additional income and this year has been hard to say the least.

I don't often do overnights anymore the past few years because it can be so cumbersome except for a few friends and established clients who don't ab e me.

So for Labor Day weekend, back in July, I had an old client reach out to me and ask if I would be willing to pet sit for her.

I said absolutely and she said she would finalize the details as we got closer. So she just finalized them yesterday.

I told my SO that last night I'd be pet sitting "x" amount of days and they flipped out. Telling me it was weird to be in someone else's house.

They said if we had plans I would have to cancel and I need to communicate better.

They then proceeded to tell me that I need to get their approval for any job I pick up moving forward.

They don't pay my bills, and I need additional pay when my job is stagnant as I'm commission based.

I feel like I'm being controlled and that this isn't a ridiculous job to pick up nor something that should be this big of a deal.

BenitoCamelo74 NTA. This comment right here: "They then proceeded to tell me that I need to get their approval for any job I pick up moving forward" this should be a huge red flag for you. You need to break up and run away from this control freak.

Moist-Map9948 OP Honestly that comment is what drove me here. But then my mother sided with him so i felt beyond conflicted. But my mother married a wildly narcissistic controlling man.

ellienation NTA, unless you two have kids or a business that you run together or something, there's no reason you should have to get your work schedule approved by your SO. I'd understand wanting a heads up as to when you're free, but his reaction seems over the top. How long have you been dating? Is this a new development?

Moist-Map9948 OP Weve been official for a few months and kinda living together organically. We have known each other for 3+ years

EwwDavvidd NTA. Sounds a bit controlling. Maybe he meant more like let's communicate and discuss before agreeing to anything? I don't know. Up to you how you proceed.

Moist-Map9948 OP Yeah i could go either way. We are also battling some major cultural differences too which has not bee super easy.

Intrepid-Implement59 NTA. You made a professional commitment and you have to take care of your bills. He sounds controlling.
